Monday was my birthday, and I wanted to include this post separately as an extra, because I can. Hugh organised a picnic, decided on a location and also made reservations for dinner. BRA-to-the-VO.
It’s not every day that you turn 25 (Vingt-Cinq) in Paris and I woke feeling pretty pleased with the way life was turning out, (although Hugh may argue I was a bit grumpy I had a disrupted sleep, nightmares, large consumption of cheese etc).
At 2pm I was greeted by a quick knock on the door and an excited Hugh who had finished training and revealed the plans for the day; a picnic at the gardens of Versailles! For those of you not in the know, the Château de Versailles (Palace of Versailles) was home to Marie Antoinette, a completely fabulous historical figure, and was the pre-wedding party venue for KimyK and Kanye two completely ridiculous figures. It was a beautiful day and since it was a special occasion Hugh pulled out the ‘heavy’ suitcase with vacuumed packed items inside and found shorts and sandals for me. This was the first pair of shorts I had worn in 10 days. And that may not sound like a big deal to you; however all of those 10 days were ‘short-wearing’ weather days! So I was extremely pleased to free my pins!
I was expecting the drive to be more of a road trip but it was a quick journey from the 16th to the wealthy area of Versailles, 17km from the centre of Paris. This was our inaugural picnic so pressure was mounting. I had played no part in the selection of food and acquisition of picnicking supplies… I was very intrigued to say the least. We strolled along a tree-lined walkway until we reached the large canal/lake at the bottom of the garden.
Hugh ordered that I leave him to set up so I walked aimlessly around, taking photos of the area, and also of Hugh. I felt like I was playing Creep up Charlie, I would slowly edge towards him and he would pop his head up and yell loudly “GO AWAY” while I started laughing. Couples glanced over from their romantic embraces, and whispered conversations, to give us death stares.
After some time; the arrangement of picnic, and the writing of my birthday card, I was summoned back to the picnic site. He nailed it. I was lost for words, which is extremely rare.
The best brie fromage, prosciutto salami, baguette and avocado!
I could imagine Marie Antoinette approving of the not one but two pieces of cake that Hugh had selected. And “eat cake” I did! Chocolate hazelnut cake with a crunchy texture (amazing) and strawberry vanilla cake for dessert with an intoxicated Minnie which was definitely the pièce de résistance.
We needed to walk off the feast so set off toward the palace, and then through the gardens. We saw staff setting up for a party, and actors dressed in costumes – which was thrilling! I wanted to camp out in the bushes as I was convinced Jay & Bey were throwing a big party, (they are performing in Paris this weekend). Those shots could have set us up, especially if Solange was there; and Chris Martin was performing, and an argument broke out between J.Law and Gwynie because he was looking at Gwynie when he was singing, “You’re a sky full of stars! “
I was getting carried away…. and Hugh was getting concerned that our car would be locked in the car park. So begrudgingly I let him hurry me along. But… If you see any Bey&Jay Versailles parties in OK! Mag or similar, you heard it here first…
I had the nicest day and I am indebted to my favourite Hugh-Man for the best birthday picnic ever.
